New in BOOM! — Building Use Data Layer Now Live

Sourcing smarter just got easier.
We’ve just launched a powerful new data layer inside BOOM! — Building Use — designed to help you understand what any registered building is actually used for, instantly.
Whether you’re hunting Class Q opportunities or scanning Grey Belt zones, knowing the real-world use of a building can make or break your strategy. Is it agricultural? Commercial? Mixed use? Until now, this insight wasn’t always easy to surface. Now, it’s built straight into your toolkit.
A Standalone Data Layer — Available UK-Wide
Head to the Planning Layers tab and switch on Building Use. Once enabled, you can simply hover over any building to see detailed information, including:
Use type – what the building is officially registered as
Description – a plain-English summary
Part count – how many parts make up the building footprint
Land use tier – what the land it sits on is registered as
Connectivity – whether the building links to other structures
Construction material – primary build materials
Age band – when the building was originally constructed
This makes it easy to spot barns, commercial units, industrial buildings and more — without needing to dig through planning documents.
Integrated with SiteSeeker

If you’re already using SiteSeeker, our site-sourcing tool with over 50+ filters and constraints, you’ll now find Building Use as a fully integrated constraint.
This means you can now build more refined sourcing strategies — for example:
Looking for Class Q-eligible barns? Just filter for agricultural or aquaculture use, then cross-check build age.
Want to target commercial buildings? Filter for Commercial Activity.
No guesswork. No switching tools. Just smarter, faster insights.
Why It Matters
Every great development starts with understanding what’s already there. Building Use gives you the clarity to:
Qualify sites faster
Avoid dead ends
Spot hidden opportunities most others miss
It’s now live for all BOOM! users. Go give it a spin — and as always, we’d love to hear how you’re using it. If you’d prefer us to show you in a demo we can do that too, book some time in our calendar.
